09. Our story
Non l'ho costruita per il mercato.
L'ho costruita perché doveva esistere.
I did not build it for the market.
I built it because it had to exist.
Non ho cominciato da un'analisi dei competitor, da una presentazione ben fatta o da un business plan.
Non per inseguire una moda, occupare una nicchia o vestirmi da startup.
Ho cominciato da un'idea che è rimasta viva per anni e non si è lasciata spegnere.
I did not start from a competitor analysis, a well-made presentation, or a business plan.
Not to chase a trend, fill a niche, or dress myself up as a startup.
I started from an idea that stayed alive for years and refused to be extinguished.
Forse comincia ancora prima di avere le parole giuste per dirlo.
In una foto ho cinque anni, sono in sella a un go-kart, e sul muso c'è già uno stemma con un cavallino nero su sfondo giallo Modena.
Non è nostalgia.
È il segno che certe immagini entrano presto e non ti mollano più.
Perhaps it begins before I even have the right words for it.
In a photograph I am five years old, sitting on a go-kart, and on the nose there is already a badge with a black horse on Modena yellow.
It is not nostalgia.
It is the sign that certain images get in early and never let go.
Da anni vivo all'estero e lavoro in banca, in un mondo fatto di schermi, numeri, procedure e astrazione.
Un mondo ordinato, efficiente, levigato.
Ma quello che continua a chiamarmi davvero è altro: il metallo lavorato, la precisione, la combustione, la presenza fisica di un oggetto costruito con serietà.
For years I lived abroad and worked in banking, in a world of screens, numbers, procedures, and abstraction.
An ordered, efficient, frictionless world.
But what kept calling me was something else: worked metal, precision, combustion, the physical presence of an object built with seriousness.
Questa idea resta con me per quattordici anni.
Non come un capriccio, ma come una direzione precisa.
Un piccolo motore artigianale, vero, capace di tenere insieme cultura meccanica, bellezza materiale e rigore costruttivo.
Non un gadget.
Non un giocattolo.
Un motore.
This idea stayed with me for fourteen years.
Not as a whim, but as a precise direction.
A small artisan engine, real, capable of holding together mechanical culture, material beauty, and constructive rigour.
Not a gadget.
Not a toy.
An engine.
Poi scrivo a Franco.
Io porto la visione, lui porta la competenza tecnica e la capacità concreta di costruirla.
È lì che Officina 9 prende forma.
Then I wrote to Franco.
I brought the vision, he brought the technical expertise and the concrete ability to build it.
That is where Officina 9 took shape.
Senza investitori.
Senza teatro.
Senza parole usate per rimandare il momento
in cui bisogna fare davvero.
Solo con la convinzione che certe cose meritino
di essere fatte come si deve.
No investors.
No theatre.
No words used to postpone the moment
when you actually have to act.
Just the conviction that certain things deserve
to be done properly.
Ho voluto riportare al centro un oggetto vero.
Un oggetto fatto di metallo, tolleranze, precisione e combustione.
Un oggetto che non vive di storytelling gonfiato, ma del suo peso, delle sue superfici, della sua presenza.
I wanted to bring a real object back to the centre.
An object made of metal, tolerances, precision, and combustion.
An object that does not live on inflated storytelling, but on its weight, its surfaces, its presence.
In un tempo che spinge tutto verso il digitale, il veloce e il replicabile, ho scelto la direzione opposta.
Ho scelto la materia.
Ho scelto la meccanica.
Ho scelto l'idea che anche un piccolo motore possa avere la statura di un oggetto importante.
In an age that pushes everything toward the digital, the fast, and the replicable, I chose the opposite direction.
I chose matter.
I chose mechanics.
I chose the idea that even a small engine can have the stature of an important object.
Non l'ho costruita per piacere a tutti.
L'ho costruita per chi capisce.
I did not build it to please everyone.
I built it for those who understand.
